Educational
Concerns is a publication featuring the inaugural address of Professor Dr.
Liebeth Noordegraaf-Eelens. In 2022, Noordegraaf-Eelens earned her doctorate at
Erasmus University in Rotterdam for her research on the positive societal
impact of transformative education.
She states that when she thinks of educational concerns, she envisions engagement with social issues, including social inequality, the climate crisis, pandemics, and geopolitical threats. A concern represents a convergence of human actors, non-human actors, and technologies. In her lecture, Noordegraaf-Eelens proposes a new structure for teaching. In short, social issues are concerns, shared concerns, and education shares these concerns.

In
alignment with the presenter's departure from conventional thinking methods,
this publication is designed to emphasize hierarchy by playfully deviating from
more traditional book designs. Page numbers are large and rotated, while the
running text possesses a more dynamic flow. Opting out of photography, each
chapter is equipped with a typographic title page that illustratively
complements the content of the text.
To cater to both English and Dutch readers, the publication is designed with a dual-sided layout, each with its own cover, seamlessly coming together in the middle of the book through a mirrored spread at the end of both versions.
